Mkay, so it's pretty early in the morning and I've had zero sleep - I can't promise this post is going to make much sense. But it's been a while since our last blog post, and I figured it's high time to get some new content up. Bear with me, folks, I'll try to make it relevant and informative!
When I first began my journey in the indie author world nearly 10 years ago, I wish I had known then, what I know now. It is my deepest hope that perhaps these little pearls of knowledge will reach the right people, and if this proves to be something you already know...well, that's okay, too.
Some people may not know there is so much more to publishing than just ebooks and paperbacks. Truth is, I wouldn't have known about them myself had I not seen other authors posting about them on social media. Maybe you are more observant than me. Maybe you've done more research. If so - congrats! Seriously. I wish I were more observant sometimes.
Translations - Did you know you can have your book translated into other languages? This opens up the WHOLE WORLD to you! And also, those translated works can be published in other countries? Imagine the hands your book will fall in once it's been translated for someone else to read; it's a pretty amazing thought.
There may be more than one website (I'm sure there is), but the one I'm most familiar with is Babelcube. To date, I've had several books translated into Italian, Portuguese, French, and Spanish. Everyone I've worked with on there has been super nice, and they are just as eager to translate for you, as you are for them to translate.
What I like most about this site is the fact it's basically free. All you have to do is agree to split your royalties from the translated version's sales, with the translator. Pretty sweet, right?
Audio Books - Again, I'm sure you've probably heard of this one, and I'm sure there are more available. But when I decided I wanted to turn my books into audiobooks, I went with ACX. They do connect straight to Audible, and they get your audiobook on Amazon. I'm not entirely sure how the inner-connectings work, but you can read all about it on their website. I've got 3 books on there right now, with another in the making. Just scroll through available voice actors and find a match. Hopefully you connect and you'll soon be on your way to having an audio book!
Again, you can choose to split the royalties 50-50 with the voice actor, and I've gotten some pretty nice numbers from there over the past 2 years.
Like I said, this is probably information most of you already knew, but if it helps just one person out today, I'll consider it a win. :)
Until next time!
